Prepare a controlled session

Move the microphone before applying broad corrective EQ. Try angle or source position when one part of an instrument dominates, and reduce room contribution by increasing useful direct sound without obstructing performance. Maintain safe distance from loud sources and never place equipment where it restricts the performer or can be struck.
Check, document, and deliver
Photograph or diagram the accepted position, note microphone orientation and pattern, measure only as a reproducibility aid, and save a labeled reference take. If the setup must be recalled, include instrument, performer position, room location, stand height, and any changed amplifier controls.
A placement that works for one source, room, player, arrangement, or microphone may fail on another. Published distances and angles can be starting points only. Phase relationships can change with small moves, and no placement makes an unsafe sound level or unstable stand acceptable.

A songwriter needs one microphone position for acoustic guitar that leaves room for a lead vocal without sounding thin.
- Mark the chair and guitar position, secure the stand, and ask the player to repeat the same verse pattern at a consistent intensity.
- Record an initial position aimed toward the body-and-neck region, then make separate angle and distance changes rather than moving both together.
